The interior of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas

Apart from the creations by architect Jože Plečnik, it was the Baroque masterpieces that decisively contributed to the architectural features of the present Ljubljana. The old city centre boasts numerous buildings with Baroque façades, and arched courtyards and staircases. Also the majority of the famous churches of Ljubljana were after the earthquake of 1511 rebuilt in Baroque style.

A jewel in the crown of Baroque Ljubljana are the masterpieces by the Venetian-born sculptor Francesco Robba, whose works include the famous Fountain of Three Carniolan Rivers (Vodnjak treh kranjskih rek), one of the most typical Baroque monuments in Ljubljana, situated in front of the Town Hall (Mestna hiša).
